Los Angeles TV news anchor Chauncy Glover dies unexpectedly at age 39

Three-time Emmy winner and Los Angeles television news anchor Chauncy Glover died unexpectedly on Tuesday, his family announced. He was 39.

Glover co-anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts on KCAL News with Pat Harvey and shared the 8 and 10 p.m. desk with Suzie Suh last year after joining her anchor team in October 2023.

His family announced the news in a statement to KCAL, writing: “We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy's beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon in our lives and a true hero for his community.”

His cause of death was not released as of Wednesday morning.

In one of his recent social media posts, he shared a video on Instagram highlighting some of his most memorable moments with KCAL. His caption read: “Don’t pay attention to the clock, do what it does. Carry on! My first year in #LA on #kcalnews #cbsla in the books! God is good!”

Before working with KCAL in Los Angeles, Glover was the first Black male lead anchor for Houston's KTRK, where he was on the air for eight years, according to KCAL.

The Alabama native worked in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and Texas before moving to California.

One of his accomplishments outside of his journalism career was founding The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentoring program designed to help “develop inner-city boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen,” according to its website. The program focuses on college readiness, etiquette, public speaking, financial responsibility and mental health awareness, among other topics.

“Chauncy’s compassion and commitment to helping others, particularly through the Chauncy Glover Project, have changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams,” his family wrote in their statement. “His talent, his warmth and his vision left their mark.” Everyone who knew him and the world is bleaker without him.

“As we mourn this profound loss, we are comforted by the love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul that he was,” they concluded. “We respectfully request privacy as we mourn and honor his incredibleness.” Legacy. He was taken from us far too soon, but his influence will be felt forever.
