Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai eyes Virgil van Dijk's EMOTIONAL REVENGE

Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai will try to take revenge on his captain in the Nations League clash

Hungary will face the Netherlands in the third round of the competition at Puskás Aréna Park on Friday (October 11). It will be the first time that both Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk face to face on an international level.

The Netherlands are currently in second place in Group C, while Hungary are bottom of the table.

Shocking Hungary results

Hungary's form against the Netherlands is shocking to say the least. They have faced each other 17 times, with the Orange winning ten of those duels and losing just five – the last time in 1984.

Hungary's recent record is even worse, having lost each of its last six games and conceding a whopping 34 goals against the Netherlands in those games – an average of 5.6 goals per game.

The last time Hungary played each other in a World Cup qualifier exactly eight years ago, they suffered one of their biggest and most embarrassing defeats in recent history, losing 8-1. It was a national tragedy that sparked outrage across the country.

That's why Friday's game will be an emotionally charged one for the Liverpool midfielder.

Szoboszlai can't wait to rewrite history. A Hungarian victory would mean forgetting the past and putting things right again.

It also gives the 23-year-old bragging rights to his teammates Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and others Ryan Gravenberch. However, Marco Rossi's team still has a lot to prove.

Despite a dismal European Championship and a winless start to the Nations League season, Hungary have a great home record, recording nine wins and two draws in their last eleven games. Hungary also has no good chances in the Nations League after being beaten 5-0 by Germany and held to a goalless draw by Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Since the Bosnians actually managed to score last month, Hungary is currently in last place in Group 3 of League A, which would mean automatic relegation to the second division next season.

However, Ronald Koeman's side appear to have bounced back after being knocked out by England in the European Championship semi-finals. His team played Bosnia five times before drawing 2-2 against Germany. While Germany and the Netherlands are fighting for the top spot, the Oranje have to settle for second place due to a poorer goal difference, although this would still be enough to qualify for the quarter-finals.
