It's that time of year again when college football fans are hopeful and wondering if their favorite team can secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. This year, however, there are even more than usual. With the expanded format comes tons of new schools and fan bases eager to find out where they stand in the eyes of the selection committee.

Well, we're just moments away from finding out exactly that. While top teams like Oregon, Georgia, Miami and Ohio State don't have much to worry about so far, there are plenty of bubble teams worried about being ranked outside the top 12.

Teams like Alabama and Tennessee, both of which suffered surprising losses, are biting their teeth and wondering what their chances are. While both teams are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, they shot themselves in the foot before the end of the season.

Each of the four quarterfinal games and both semifinal games are played in the current New Year's Six Bowls. These bowls include Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Cotton and Peach bowls. As with the four-team playoffs, these bowls alternate between hosting semifinal and quarterfinal games each year.
