Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver her concession speech after losing the 2024 presidential election overnight as Donald Trump officially secured a second term by needing more than 270 electoral votes to win.

She is expected to address her supporters at Howard University today at 1:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. ET, with coverage expected on broadcast and cable news networks after a long night of returns.

Howard, her alma mater based in Washington, D.C., is where her supporters gathered Tuesday in hopes of celebrating her victory. That didn't happen, as Trump surpassed his 2016 poll results, particularly in key battleground states, winning Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and North Carolina before securing victory when Wisconsin was called for him overnight.

In her phone call with Trump today, Harris officially admitted, according to media reports and the Trump campaign.

Steven Cheung, Trump campaign communications director, said: “President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by telephone today to congratulate him on his historic victory.” President Trump recognized Vice President Harris for her strength, professionalism and tenacity throughout election campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of uniting the country.”

President Joe Biden followed with a similar call and invited Trump to the White House. Biden is expected to address the country on Thursday.
