Lamar Jackson plays against Broncos; Keaton Mitchell could be activated

After Lamar Jackson was absent on Thursday, his status for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos was somewhat uncertain. According to Underdog Fantasy's James Palmer, even though the Broncos had been preparing for Jackson all along, there were rumors “in the locker room” about him missing his second practice. But that hope will end as Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh have confirmed he will be on the field on Sunday.

“Yes,” Jackson. “100 percent. No, (missing Sunday's game) never had any doubts. I just rest my body. It’s a long season.”

Jackson's statement was supported by Harbaugh; and he's not concerned that Jackson's absence will have an impact on their offense or game plan.

“He will be ready. I’m not worried about it,” Harbaugh said. “He studied all week. He was involved in the entire preparation, he knows the game plan, he knows the opponent. He’ll be ready to go.”

Along with Jackson, Harbaugh confirmed that Marcus Williams will play against the Broncos after being active but not playing in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

What will be more interesting will be whether running back Keaton Mitchell will be activated for Sunday's game. Mitchell returned to practice on Wednesday, October 23, for the first time since tearing his ACL against the Jacksonville Jaguars in December 2023. Mitchell fully participated in training throughout the week and looked significantly better during the portions of training open to the media. Harbaugh said he looked good this week of practice.

“He looked absolutely fine and we have to make a decision now moving forward here,” Harbaugh said. “All of this also has an impact on the squad.”

Jackson noted that he is returning to his rookie form.

“It’s great to have him back out there. I told him earlier; He caught a little pass and took off. I'm thinking, 'You're starting to look like last year's Keaton.' So it's great to see him in good spirits again. He was always in a good mood, but seeing him on the field with us is nice to see.”

The roster gymnastics Harbaugh alluded to was due to the broken defensive line. The Ravens placed Michael Pierce on injured reserve because of a calf injury and Brent Urban has not returned to practice since suffering a concussion Sunday against the Browns. In addition to the two absences, Broderick Washington and Travis Jones are also struggling with injuries. The Ravens will face some difficult decisions before the game as they must decide who to bring up from the practice squad for the game and how to assemble the 53-man roster after adding Diontae Johnson, possibly Mitchell and others.
