Maybe more NBA head coaches should watch film at car washes, considering JJ Redick's Los Angeles Lakers are off to a 3-0 start this season.

Former NBA point guard Baron Davis caused a stir on Saturday when he revealed on social media that he saw Redick at a car wash reviewing a movie:

Baron Davis @BaronDavis

I just walked in @jj_redick at the car wash. He had the laptop and was watching a movie!!!! Player-coach!!! Lakers in great hands!! #Devotion

“It’s the circumstances of the encounter,” Redick said told reporters when he discussed why he did this. “Basically I spent last night and this morning getting the hang of last night's game and looking forward to today a little bit. This morning was no different.”

The coach also said that the car wash was next to where his two sons played basketball games on Saturday and that it was the easiest location.

“Very efficient use of time,” he said. “I watch a lot of films, but that's not normal, no. Thank you, Baron.”

The film session worked, as the Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 131-127, just a day after they beat the Phoenix Suns 123-116 on Friday. They also took on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the season opener on Tuesday.

Minnesota, Phoenix and Sacramento are three potential Western Conference contenders, so these head-to-head victories will certainly resonate with the Purple and Gold as they battle for playoff berths later in the season.

They also sent a clear message after Los Angeles opted for the play-in tournament each of the last two seasons after missing the 2021-22 postseason entirely.

Redick has his team playing at a high level right from the start, and a healthy Lakers squad appears to be one that can compete well into the postseason. And those playoff games would certainly inspire more film sessions, maybe even at a car wash.
