Jalen Brunson took a pay cut so the Knicks could build a championship team around him, but the Celtics showed them what a real title team looks like.

Boston made 29 3-pointers in a 132-109 win at TD Garden. It tied the NBA record for most players in a game and came on the same night the C's raised Banner 18. The Celtics showed no signs of a championship hangover. However, New York showed that it would take time to integrate newcomers Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Brunson scored a team-high 22 points, and he made no excuses as the Knicks' leader Tuesday night.

“It's an easy way out, but we still got our asses kicked,” Brunson told reporters when asked about how New York tries to figure things out with new players, according to SNY. “We just have to come out and see if we can get better. Yes, we haven’t been together on a fairly new team for a long time, but that’s a different discussion.”

Brunson's teammate Josh Hart had a different reaction to the Knicks' loss. Regardless, it became clear on Tuesday evening that New York still has a long way to go if it wants to catch up with the Celtics in the championship.
