The World Series is over, but the New York Yankees fan who tried to steal the ball from Mookie Betts is still a major topic of conversation on social media.

But now, after the initial shock of the incident itself and the subsequent fan ban from Game 5 at Yankee Stadium, fans have noticed another strange detail of the viral incident.

The images circulating online centered on Yankees fan Austin Capobianco trying to open the Dodgers player's glove to hit the ball free in the first inning of Game 4.

But as fans have pointed out, in the left corner of the images, another Yankees fan appears to be wearing a sliding glove, which baseball players use to protect their hands when running between the bases.

The gloves feature additional padding and are designed to minimize the risk of injuries caused by friction when players jump with their hands towards the ground.

But, amusingly, there is no obvious reason for a fan in the stands to wear one while watching a game.

“An underrated aspect of the crazy Yankee fan trying to steal the ball from Betts is the guy right next to him wearing a Tiffany Blue Evoshield sliding glove,” one fan said on social media.

Another wrote: “The weirdest thing in this picture by far is the guy on the left wearing a sliding glove.” “Yankees fans are such a bunch of muppets.”

Another fan said: “The Mookie Betts fan interference debacle lost another fan right next to them wearing an EVOSHIELD SLIDING MITT.” “These people immediately think they're on the team.”

While the Dodgers lost that game, they emerged victorious on Wednesday night, claiming their eighth World Series title in the organization's history.

The Yankees appeared to keep the series alive, taking a 5-0 lead with home runs from Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm and Giancarlo Stanton.

But in the bottom of the fifth, fielding errors by Judge, Anthony Volpe and Gerrit Cole allowed the Dodgers to tie the score.

As for Capobianco, he was barred from returning for Game 5 and said he was “upset” because he couldn't give his younger brother the tickets.

And from then on, the Dodgers were undeniable. The team is expected to return to Los Angeles on Thursday. A parade is planned in downtown LA on Friday.
