Kamala Harris gives a concession speech on Wednesday: Time, what we know

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to deliver her 2024 presidential concession speech on Wednesday at Howard University in Washington, DC

The Democratic presidential nominee, who lost to former President Donald Trump, is expected to deliver the speech at 4 p.m. ET, a source familiar with the plans said.

Harris was expected to speak at her election night party Tuesday night at Howard University, a historically black college where she was a student.

However, as the voting results emerged, it became clear early Wednesday morning that Trump would ultimately win a second term in the White House.

Polls before Election Day showed Harris and Trump neck and neck. But Trump prevailed with a decisive victory, winning battleground states – including North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – that had been considered a failure for weeks.

Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July following a poor performance against former President Donald Trump in a June 27 presidential debate.

During her three-month campaign, Harris faced challenges from an unpopular President Joe Biden, whose approval ratings were hovering around 41% in exit polls as of Tuesday.

The Harris campaign and Democratic Party fundraising committees set fundraising records, including raising more than $1 billion since Harris became the nominee. Many billionaires, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, also supported Harris. (Elon Musk was among those who supported Trump.)
