Josh Furlong's AP Top 25: Oregon is the final team to clinch the top spot

SALT LAKE CITY — The only thing consistent about the 2024 season is that it has been wildly inconsistent.

But if you're not having fun watching college football this season, you're missing out on a fun-filled year full of chaos and excitement. Every week is unpredictable and fun – unless your team loses, I guess.

The following is the ballot I submitted to the Associated Press that will be factored into the consensus rankings that will be released Sunday afternoon.

1.Oregon

The Ducks continue to look solid in the Big Ten; and more importantly, Oregon didn't have a hangover after defeating Ohio State in a Friday night game at Purdue. Is Oregon really the No. 1 team in the country? Who really knows at this point, but they are undefeated and playing great.

The Ducks have as good a chance as anyone else at No. 1 right now.

2. Georgia

The SEC still runs over Georgia. There may have been a few people who brushed Georgia aside after the loss to Alabama – and probably with good reason – but Kirby Smart gave Texas a humble pie on home soil. The Bulldogs appeared to be the better team on Saturday night.

3. Ohio State

After a loss to Oregon last week, Ohio State was given a bye week to regroup. The Buckeyes are still one of the best teams in the country, so don't let them unsettle you just yet. They are just seconds away from an undefeated season.

4.Texas

For a brief moment, it seemed like a QB controversy was brewing in Texas — and maybe there still could be, even though Steve Sarkisian said Quinn Ewers remains the guy — Saturday night against Georgia. The Longhorns have been great so far this season, but on Saturday the team seemed underpowered against Georgia.

The Longhorns are still capable of winning a national championship, but there are still a few things that need to be done before it becomes a reality.

5. Penn State

Penn State took advantage of the bye week and stood idly by as the teams around them beat each other. The race for the Big Ten title will be highly competitive, so any chance to refocus is beneficial. I dropped the Nittany Lions one spot to make room for Georgia – sorry, not sorry.

6.Miami

Somehow, Miami continues to find a way to win games — even when the odds are stacked against them. But Mario Cristobal's team gets the job done every week and delivers some of the most entertaining finishes of the season. Will everything collapse at some point? Maybe, but the Hurricanes keep winning.

7. Tennessee

In what felt like an elimination game on Saturday afternoon, Tennessee ultimately prevailed against Alabama. It was an exciting game, especially an entertaining back-and-forth in the fourth quarter. The Vols don't look like the champs early in the season, but the competition is tougher and they still find a way to get important wins.

8.LSU

Aside from a loss to USC in Week 1 in a game that honestly could have gone either way, LSU has quietly put together a solid season. And even though their most recent opponent, Arkansas, suffered three losses this season, the Razorbacks were a tough opponent. And yet, LSU did a good job in a hostile environment and earned the comfortable victory.

9.BYU

BYU was on track to lose its first game of the season after Oklahoma State scored a touchdown with eight minutes left and scored the go-ahead touchdown with a minute left. But Jake Retzlaff and the Cougars stayed composed and overcame a seemingly improbable task to secure the last-second win. Some may call it luck, but the Cougars are proving that they are one of the best teams in the country right now.

10. Iowa State

It was a special season for Iowa State. And yet there was a near collapse this weekend with what could have been a home loss to UCF. But quarterback Rocco Becht called his own number and scored the late goal to win against UCF on Saturday night. It's a potential battle between BYU and Iowa State, but the Cougars probably had the better record up to this point.

Remember, kids: Hold on to the ball until you cross the goal line.
