Joel Klatt explains how Alabama can still control its destiny in the College Football Playoff

Fox Sports' Joel Klatt still sees Alabama Control over your own destiny College Football Playoffsbut there is no room for error.

Right now, Alabama is 5-2 with five games remaining. According to Klatt, the Crimson Tide need to go 10-2 and they will make it to the CFP. If there is a third loss, say goodbye to playoff hopes.

Despite a defeat against TennesseeAnd Vanderbilt A few weeks ago, Alabama was still in the thick of the race.

“I think now, after the loss to Tennessee, I think Alabama could take their destiny into their own hands to get into the playoffs, but only if they go 10-2 (and get eliminated),” said Klatt in his podcast. “Alabama with a win Georgia Totally comes in… I think it is 100% and I think everyone would agree with me. The harder question now is: Will Alabama make the playoffs at 9-3? 10-2 and 9-3. And for the sake of argument, let's just say it's a loss LSU.

“It’s going to be a difficult environment at LSU, let’s put it that way for argument’s sake. Okay, 9-3 Alabama with a win over Georgia, will they make the playoffs? I pause because I think a lot of people would say, 'Well, of course they would.' They would get a win over Georgia.' I do not believe that. I think Alabama has to win.”

Next up is No. 21 Missouri at home, so a home win in the rankings would go a long way toward restoring confidence. But a loss? Alabama may be thinking about next season.

“Think about the number of teams that could be ahead of them, not just in the country but even just in the SEC,” Klatt said. “So think about that if they lose to LSU. Let's just say it hypothetically: If they lose to LSU and are 9-3, they lose to Vandy, they lose to Tennessee, they lose to LSU, but they have a win over Georgia. Well, you would at least run a scenario where Georgia, Texas is probably Texas A&MLSU, almost certainly if you give LSU a win over Bama and probably Tennessee, everyone has a better record than them. All of them have better balance sheets than her. That’s five SEC teams. (The) SEC doesn't put six teams in the playoffs. They just aren't. There just aren’t enough places.”

Not only does Alabama compete in the SEC, there are plenty of teams in the rest of the country that could be included in the expanded bracket.

“As if we could easily get to 12-1 Ohio State And Oregon“said Klatt. “We could easily get to 11-1 Penn State. We could reach 10:2 Indiana. We could get to 11:1 Notre DameWe could both score 12-1 Miami And Clemson. We could get to 11-2 Kansas Statewe could get to 12:1 BYUwe could get to 12:1 Iowa State.

“And this is all completely out of Alabama’s control. So you heard it here first: Hopefully Alabama is 100% if they win. And I'm 99.999% sure that if they lose one more game, they'll be out of the playoffs… They'd need major chaos out there, and if chaos starts to spread, then, yeah, maybe because they'd have a… win about Georgia. So let’s back up and call it 95%.”
