Jets star Garrett Wilson is drawing trade interest, sources say

Following the New York Jets' acquisition of Davante Adams this week, a select group of NFL teams have inquired about whether the Jets would be willing to trade fellow star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, league sources told ESPN on Saturday with.

The Jets have heard from other teams but have no plans to trade Wilson, according to sources.

It's understandable why teams are turning to the Jets, who added Adams talent at the wide receiver position. These teams also know that Wilson will eventually be able to get the lucrative contract that other wide receivers have signed in recent months as the market at the position has exploded.

Teams were willing to try to acquire Wilson with the understanding that they would be willing to pay for the 2022 first-round draft pick once he becomes eligible for a new contract. But that appears to be a moot point for now, as New York plans to keep Wilson.

Although they are not expected to trade Wilson, the Jets are listening to offers for veteran wide receiver Mike Williams, according to league sources.

Williams did not practice on Wednesday and Thursday for personal reasons, but the eight-year veteran said he expects to play Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Raiders were once interested in having Williams included in a potential Adams transfer – Las Vegas general manager Tom Telesco drafted and signed Williams to a contract extension during their time together in Los Angeles with the Chargers – but he was not included in the deal Deal included blockbuster trade that closed on Tuesday.

The Jets instead stuck with Williams for now, but it might not last much longer. According to league sources, two of the interested teams are likely to be the Steelers and Chargers, where Williams played the first seven years of his career.

According to league sources, the Jets and Steelers have decided to postpone any substantive discussions about Williams until next week.

Neither Williams nor Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich announced the reason for the wide receiver's two-day break this week. Williams was called out by quarterback Aaron Rodgers for going the wrong way during the game-winning interception in Monday night's 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets traded for Adams the next day, meaning Williams had a reduced role as he dodged a question Friday about whether he wanted to be traded. Williams said he was “excited” to have Adams on the team, and Wilson echoed that sentiment, adding that Adams was “one of my favorite players” growing up.

When asked if he was worried about losing targets, Wilson, the most targeted player in the NFL, replied: “Nope, at the end of the day it's OK if I lose a few targets. I recently got 22 (in week 5). It doesn't take that many to get where I want to go.

Wilson, the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year, has 41 receptions for 399 yards and three touchdowns this season. Williams has 10 catches for 145 yards.

ESPN's Rich Cimini contributed to this report.
