Janelle Monáe completely transformed for Halloween this year!

To celebrate the spooky holiday, the 38-year-old multi-hyphenate transformed into a real-life version of ET, the beloved character from Steven Spielberg's 1982 film. ET the alien.

“You finally came home. 🛸👆🏽Welcome back ET 🥹Thanks, Google Maps. 🛸 Sincerely both ET and Janellllliot,” the performer, who goes by the pronouns “she/her” and “the/them,” wrote while sharing photos of the extravagant costume on Instagram, Wednesday, October 30.

She also channeled ET for the Halloween edition of The Jennifer Hudson Showwhich will air on Thursday, October 31st.

The talk show shared a preview of the episode on Instagram and X, showing Monáe in full costume as she greeted host Jennifer Hudson.

“I never thought I'd meet ET,” Hudson said in the clip as Monáe repeated Hudson's name and her prosthetic finger lit up.

An overjoyed Hudson then told the audience: “ET knows my name. Thank you for coming to the happy place. I don’t know whether to say Janelle or ET,” to which Monáe replies, “ET is Janelle Monáe.”

Earlier this month, Monáe revealed to PEOPLE that the elaborate costume took years to make.

“I actually shared a costume idea with someone's team and tried to get a price for how much it would cost. “And then I found out that this person was going to be that, and I had been planning this costume for two years,” she recalled to PEOPLE, noting at the time only that she would be dressed as an “iconic movie character.”

While she added that she would wear “multiple costumes,” she revealed why dressing up as ET was special for her.

“It's such a happy thing for me when I think, 'Oh, I'm going to be able to turn into this.' “I remember how I felt when I saw this character and I can’t wait to pay homage to her,” she said.
