Jaguars WR becomes the next option for the Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a wide receiver, and while they haven't found one yet, it appears they're still looking. With Cooper Kupp potentially off the market following the Los Angeles Rams' Week 8 win, the NFL is turning its attention elsewhere and there's a new name in the AFC to watch.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk is the name to watch on the market leading up to the deadline. Jacksonville enters Week 8 at 2-5 and has a slim chance of changing things drastically enough to clinch a playoff spot. So they might be interested in selling and teams are checking out Kirk.

“Other teams are also eyeing Kirk, whose performance this season in Jacksonville has declined compared to past seasons. If the Jaguars lose to Green Bay on Sunday and fall to 2-6, it may be more likely that they will be willing to accept offers for players like Kirk,” writes Schefter.

The Steelers are believed to be at the top of the list for the next wide receiver trade. After missing out on Brandon Aiyuk, Davante Adams and possibly Kupp, the team is waiting for the opportunity to strike in a trade.

They are unable to acquire Diontae Johnson, who could be on the market in Carolina, because NFL rule prohibits teams from trading a player they just traded away within two years. So while other teams are calling the Panthers, the Steelers could be calling somewhere else – like the Jaguars.

There is an expectation that Pittsburgh will be a big-name buyer at the trade deadline as they look to bolster their offense ahead of the second half of the season. If they beat the New York Giants in Week 8, they will enter the bye week at 6-2 with an experienced quarterback and a growing offense. The only missing piece will be a WR2.

Kirk will be 28 years old at the end of the season. He has accumulated 25 catches for 340 yards and a touchdown this season.
