Isaiah Bond injury update: Texas WR heads to the locker room against Oklahoma

Just before halftime of Saturday's Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma, Texas Wide receivers Isaiah Bond went back to the locker room. According to ABC, he appeared to be nursing an injury early in the game Holly Rowe.

Bond had one catch for five yards at the time of his departure. He entered Saturday's game as the Longhorns' leading receiver with 364 yards and three touchdowns. He also has two runs for 51 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Rowe said Bond likely sustained an injury early in the game and went to the medical tent for further evaluation. But he returned to the locker room with less than a minute left in the first half as Texas took a 21-3 lead at the break.

“Bad news for Texas. Isaiah Bond, their best receiver … was taken to the locker room,” Rowe said. “At the beginning of the game I saw him tweaking something. He came over and slammed his helmet on the sideline. They put him in the injured tent for a while. He cared for it. But they finally took him off the field again. I’ll let you know when I know more.”

Bond is in his first year at Texas after transferring from Texas Alabama. He quickly became the top target in Steve Sarkisians offense after arriving as the No. 7 overall player On3 industry transfer rankings.

Texas totaled 235 yards of offense in the first half against Oklahoma and ran a balanced attack to achieve that goal. That included 113 rushing yards, which Sarkisian said was the case important to open things up and go into the locker room at 21-3.

“We got the running game going,” Sarkisian told ABC Holly Rowe. “We get a lot of split-safety looks, a lot of three-safety looks. I have to let the ball run and take advantage of the light box. And that’s what we do.”

Sarkisian also praised Quinn Ewers' Efforts in the first half after fending off a rocky start. He threw for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Sarkisian said it came down to putting him in good position.

“We stay away from third-and-long,” Sarkisian said. “He missed a few shots early. I think he’s in pretty good shape now.”
