iOS 18.0.1: Apple's update fixes these iPhone security issues and more

Apple released iOS 18.0.1 on Thursday, more than two weeks after the company released iOS 18. While this update brought a lot of new features to your iPhone, like RCS messaging and the ability to customize your home screen, iOS 18.0.1 patches some security issues and fixes a few bugs.

Here are the issues and features iOS 18.0.1 should fix.

Security issues that iOS 18.0.1 fixes

This update fixes two security issues on your iPhone. One has to do with Apple's new passwords app, the other has to do with messages.

Apple says iOS 18.0.1 fixes an issue in Passwords where the VoiceOver feature could read your saved passwords aloud.

Another issue that iOS 18.0.1 fixes concerns the recording of audio messages in Messages.

“Audio messages in Messages may record a few seconds of audio before the microphone indicator activates,” Apple wrote online.

Other issues iOS 18.0.1 fixes

The update also fixes some other issues on your iPhone. According to Apple's information, most of these issues affect the iPhone 16 series, but some other phone models may also be affected.

One issue that iOS 18.0.1 fixes is unresponsive touchscreens on the iPhone 16 series. Apple has written online that the new iPhones' touchscreens may temporarily become unresponsive in certain situations, and this update should fix that. However, it is unclear in which situations the touchscreen does not respond.

Apple did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment.

Apple also wrote that iOS 18.0.1 should address a performance issue related to memory allocation that some iPhones may experience.

Here are Apple's release notes for iOS 18.0.1:

This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone, including:

– The touchscreen may temporarily not respond under certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.

– When recording videos in macro mode with the ultra-wide camera in 4K with HDR disabled on iPhone 16 Pro models, the camera may freeze.

– Messages may end unexpectedly when replying to a message with an Apple Watch shared face.

– Performance may be affected due to a memory allocation issue on some iPhone models.
