“Hysteria!” Is an outstanding horror series | REVIEW

“Hysteria!” is a horror show that is 100% worth watching.

Details about the series:

  • Network: Peacock
  • Number of episodes: Eight
  • Plot Description: When a popular college quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a high school heavy metal band of misfits realizes they can capitalize on the town's sudden interest in the occult, by building a reputation as a satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings and reports of “supernatural activity” spark a leather-studded witch hunt that leads right back to them.
  • Cast: Julie Bowen, Jessica Treska, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Garret Dillahunt.

I wrote about the series premiere on Monday and noted that the new TV show is full of potential. After all, it's the perfect time of year for spooky content as Halloween is just around the corner.

After a strong start, has it lived up to its potential?

“Hysteria!” is great.

Well, I'm happy to say this: “Hysteria!” is absolutely holding its own after a very strong start. Now I would like to make a few things clear right at the beginning.

The Peacock series has some truly incredibly scary moments that would fit well in any horror story. If you're looking for scares, there's plenty to explore here.

However, “Hysteria” is not a bloodbath horror series. It's not the same vibe you'd expect from Friday the 13th or Halloween.

It's a lot more like the Fear Street movies with a lot of darkness and a lot of lighthearted moments. He manages to find the perfect mix, which is incredibly difficult in the horror genre.

The plot mentioned above actually focuses on a group of high school students who form a band during the Satanic Panic to surf the wave of attention and popularity at school.

However, some students start to take the cult situation a little too seriously, and next thing you know, it seems like a great evil has spread within. An evil so powerful that it has gripped the community and brought out the worst in people as death and tragedy spread their tentacles into everything.

As in many great horror stories, nothing is really as it seems. In fact, not only is “Hysteria!” a great horror story, but also a great mystery that stretches over eight episodes.

Trust nothing. Don't believe anyone. Don't take anything at face value. There are lies, deceit, murder and more to analyze. I also have to give a lot of credit to Garret Dillahunt, who plays a character called The Reverend.

He is incredibly menacing and unsettling whenever he is on screen. He doesn't have many big scenes, but whenever the Reverend is in it, things get very dark very quickly.

Without giving anything away, I think viewers will really enjoy the conclusion of the series with the climax of the eighth episode. The lies will be erased and everything will be revealed. Even at the end there is a lot of room for interpretation as to whether Satan was actually in control or whether it was all just smoke and mirrors. There's definitely a chance for another season too, and you'll understand why when you see the final minutes. That's about all I can say without giving it away. Have you seen it yet?
