Weather experts are watching where Hurricane Pattythe next named tropical storm, could form. Fortunately, hurricanes Nadine and Oscar did not hit the United States as hard as the Caribbean and Central America. However, the 2024 hurricane season is not over yet, ending November 30, and many residents in the southeastern United States are still recovering from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Meteorologists are carefully monitoring a specific area that could develop into a hurricane by next week.

Where and when could Hurricane Patty form?

A low pressure area in the western Caribbean could develop into Hurricane Patty, with the GFS modeling system predicting it could form by next week.

An October 23 analysis by meteorologist Brian Shields, better known as Mr. Weatherman on YouTube, shows that the area below the Cayman Islands and east of Honduras and Nicaragua will see a lot of rain throughout the week. With sea surface temperatures still higher than normal in the Caribbean, any sustained storm over the region risks turning into a hurricane. This is approximately the same area where Hurricanes Helene and Nadine developed their strength.

Accuweather also expects the region to be at risk of a tropical storm sometime between October 30 and November 2. This is due not only to warm water, but also to expectedly low wind shear, which favors the formation of storms.

Both Shields and Accuweather expect this potential tropical storm to move northeast over Cuba or west over Central America, as Hurricane Nadine did. Last week, a high pressure system over the southeastern United States helped protect the region from both Nadine and Oscar. However, according to Accuweather, there is a possibility that this new system could still “reach Florida or the southeastern U.S. mainland.”
