What you should know

The college basketball season begins Monday night and the Wolverines are in action. After two exhibition games, this will be the first game that counts against new head coach Dusty May's record. He has put together a brand new team whose starting eleven consists entirely of transfers. After missing the NCAA Tournament the last two years and bottoming out with an 8-24 record last season, Michigan needed a change.

Cleveland State was picked to finish seventh in the 11-team Horizon League. Michigan easily defeated Oakland (fourth) in an exhibition. The Vikings are ranked No. 183 nationally in kenpom.com's preseason rankings. They went 21-15 last season, but lost most of their performance.

Guard Ebrima Dibba is in his seventh season in college. He and former Michigan point guard DeVante' Jones were freshmen together at Coastal Carolina in 2018-19 (Michigan signed freshman Ignas Brazdeikis that year; he is now in his sixth year as a pro). Dibba spent four seasons there, sat out the 2021-22 season and played six games for South Carolina last season.

Cleveland State assistant coach Jay Shunnar is a native of Ann Arbor and a 2014 graduate of Michigan. He coached high school basketball at Skyline and Huron before becoming an assistant at John Beilein at Michigan. He later followed Beilein to the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.

Beginning November 1, Crisler Center implemented a no-bag policy for fans. This means no backpacks, handbags or belt bags are allowed inside. Exceptions for guests with medical or childcare needs (e.g. a diaper bag) will be clarified individually at the entrance. Fans can expedite the process by requesting pre-approval for such items using an online form.
