How cold will it be in Alabama this week?

Cooler air blew across Alabama Tuesday morning, and more is on the way.

As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, temperatures ranged from a decidedly cold 39 degrees in Gadsden and 43 degrees in Haleyville to a warmer 62 degrees in Mobile, according to surface observations from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures today are only expected to climb into the high 60s in northern Alabama. Forecasts say central Alabama will peak in the upper 60s to low 70s, and southern Alabama will be warmer with highs around 80 degrees.

According to the weather service, it will be cold across the country tonight as an intensifying shot of cooler air arrives.

Lows tonight (see top of this post) will range from the upper 30s in north Alabama, the upper 30s to low 40s in central Alabama, and the upper 40s to around 50 in south Alabama, where you'll finally get the cooler will feel air.

Wednesday could be the coolest day of the week. Highs Wednesday could remain in the 60s across much of the state and even much of southern Alabama.

The weather service said freeze warnings were not out of the question for parts of northern Alabama this week, but had not issued one as of Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists don't expect any rain next week either, which could worsen drought conditions in Alabama.

Temperatures are expected to moderate from Thursday and warmer weather is expected over the weekend.
