A guest at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel heard a “really loud, violent scream” coming from Liam Payne's room before the One Direction singer's death, according to a new report.

Payne died on Wednesday at the age of 31 after falling three stories from the balcony of his room at the hotel Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In an interview with People magazine, another guest staying at the same hotel recalled hearing “a lot of noise” in Payne's room before the accident, which sounded like “heavy lifting” or “bangs.”

“I thought it was construction work. I thought they were working on the room,” the hotel guest said.

The guest recalled seeing hotel employees “walking in and out” of Payne's room and then hearing “more noise” around 4:30 p.m.

Minutes after the commotion began again in the room, the guest recalled, “I heard a really loud, violent scream.”

The guest then “heard sirens” but wasn’t worried until he “came down the elevator.” The guest told the outlet that he then saw that “the whole street was full of cop cars.”

Authorities confirmed Payne died at the hotel after 5 p.m. An employee called 911 and asked for help for a guest who was “under the influence of drugs and alcohol and had destroyed some items in the room.”

“They need to send someone urgently because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger,” the employee said in an emergency call, via Reuters. “He has a room with a balcony. And we’re a little bit afraid that he’ll do something that will put his life at risk.”

Upon arrival, officers discovered that “Payne had already fallen from the balcony of his room and died at the scene as a result of the severity of his injuries.”

A preliminary autopsy revealed that Payne died of “polytrauma” and “an internal and external hemorrhage,” according to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16, temporarily led by Marcelo Roma.

According to the report, the circumstances of his death are still under investigation as it was a “doubtful” death, although it appeared that Payne was alone when the fall occurred and that the British native had “some sort of outburst because of drug abuse”. .”

Buenos Aires police said they found Payne's hotel room “in complete disarray” and “various items broken.” Packages of clonazepam (commonly sold under the brand name Klonopin and acting as a central nervous system depressant), energy supplements and other over-the-counter medications were found scattered among his belongings, according to The Associated Press.

Forensics teams also reported that a whiskey bottle, lighter and cell phone were recovered from the courtyard where Payne's body was found.

His body was then shifted to the mortuary where an autopsy was conducted between 9:45 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. The medical examiner requested histopathological, biochemical and toxicological examinations, which are still pending.

According to the autopsy, medical examiners said they found 25 injuries “consistent with those caused by falls from heights.” They also found that “cranial brain lesions were sufficient to cause death, while internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen, and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death.”

No defensive injuries were confirmed when Payne's hands were examined. Due to the position in which the body was left and the injuries from the fall, the report also states: “It is suspected that Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and that he may have entered a semi-sleep state is.” – or complete unconsciousness.

Payne was a father to seven-year-old son Bear, whom he shared with his ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.

Since Payne's death, his family members, his One Direction bandmates, Cole and many other celebrities have paid tribute to the late singer.
