Missing from the equation is David Fry, who hasn't started a game behind the plate since suffering an elbow injury midway through the season. Manager Stephen Vogt's inability to use the versatile Fry other than as a pinch-hitter or designated hitter has limited Cleveland's ability to face pitchers late in games.

Cleveland.com reached out to its Guardians Insider Subtext subscribers (sign up here) to share their thoughts on who should start behind the plate and in right field as Cleveland prepares to play in Game 3 of the ALCS at Progressive Field against to take on the Yankees.

David Fry should start at catcher even if he can't throw out runners. Noel, at least he was solid on defense. And most ABs last more than 3 pitches. He had this one single. —Viruses, New Albany

Actually, I think Hedges should do that because neither of them strikes out and I think Hedges is the better catcher. – Melinda, Cleveland

Hedges, everywhere. He calls a much better game, great framing and helps the younger players. He is also better at saving runs defensively. The other factor is fatigue, Naylor did most of the work behind the bowl, leave that job to Hedgie (who has a ring). —Neil, Reedsville, PA

Austin Hedges. If we assume an automatic out at the plate, we might as well go with the more reliable receiver and pitch blocker who also has plenty of postseason experience. Maybe move him to ninth while moving the red-hot Rocchio to second. -Terry, Peoria, AZ

Start hedges. Naylor doesn't hit either and Hedges is better defensively and handles pitchers better. Start Noel. He's much better defensively when you factor in his arm, and of the two he's more likely to hit you out of the park. —Tim, Rockville, IN

Bo Naylor catches because he can hit (at least a little better than Hedges). Big Christmas in right field because he has a better arm. And I would pray that David Fry would see a lot of action. I just hope he doesn't have a serious injury. —Hank, Seabrook Island, SC

Since neither catcher is hitting, choose defense, Hedges said. Right field is a platoon situation, but Brennan looks worse right now. —Carl, Las Vegas, NV

I'd catch the one Boyd wants. Neither of them is hitting, so I'm going for defense. I like Noel's arm, but he's not ready for prime time as a hitter. I hope Brennan can show some patience at the plate. I'm not convinced by any of them at the moment and wouldn't include them in the 26 squad. —Dave, Avon, OH

How about Snowman in RF? I've seen enough of Brennan hitting throws that are just a foot from the strike zone. If I had to choose between the two, I would take Noel. He could accidentally get into one. At the very least, Naylor might be able to hit a foul ball. Hedges is an automatic strikeout unless he bunts. —Darren, Reading, PA

Bo should still be the starting catcher because he brings the ability to change the game with one hit and Hedges doesn't. This is basically the same reason for choosing Jhonkensy over Brennan. Jhonkensy can come across one at any time. The power you get from Jhonkensy and Bo is a free spin if their counterparts don't contribute and don't have the same advantages. —Xavier, North Olmsted, OH

If a player lacks offense, he must make up for it with strong defense. 1 – Hedges because he works better with most pitchers and has a better overall game. 2 – Jhonkensy because he has a rifle arm with great accuracy. You have to choose left-handed. You take the chances. Hedges cannot be hit at all. Naylor gives you the best shot attempt. Noel, he hasn't contacted HR in over a month. Brennan gives you the best chance of scoring. He is a good defensive player. Noel came off the bench late in the game with a left-hander on the mound. Yes, but only late in the game. DeLauter and Bazzana can't get here fast enough. Don't forget Angel Martinez. It was a big mistake to leave him out of the squad. —Virgil, Gustavus, OH
