Hall of Fame Series: Ohio State beats No. 19 Texas, No. 1 South Carolina holds off Michigan

Ohio State vs. Texas men's basketball

Ohio State defeated No. 19 Texas 80-72, picking up a clean sweep and getting the 2024-25 season off to a good start. Shooting 45% from the field and 50% from three, the Buckeyes outscored their opponents in the big win. Additionally, it is coach Jake Diebler's first win as OSU's head coach.

The Longhorns' loss is the program's second loss in its last 23 season-opening games.

The Buckeyes were in rhythm from the start, shooting 50% from deep in both halves. Five players hit at least two three-pointers, including Mobley Jr.'s four-for-four effort. Bruce Thornton finished the game with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.

One of Texas' kryptonites was that it was unable to hit the long ball consistently like Ohio State, shooting just 25% from deep.

Although they didn't have a potential starter in Houston transfer guard Tramon Mark, the Longhorns' biggest bright spot was Tre Johnson, who finished with a game-high 29 points along with five rebounds and four assists in his collegiate debut.
