Grizzlies' Zach Edey talks about the challenges of the NBA

There's no question that Zach Edey is one of the most polarizing figures in basketball.

The 7-foot-4 Edey, selected No. 9 in the draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, is not only an exciting player but will also be the answer to one of sports' biggest questions: Can a traditional center thrive in the modern age? NBA?

The jury is still out on the latter – although Edey is sure to play a big role in the Grizzlies' Western Conference chase this year – but his 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks in just 22 minutes the other night had some cause for a stir.

In a recent media release, Edey spoke in detail about the challenges of his limited NBA time so far.

“It was a unique experience – I just settled in, got used to how everything was going and just tried to find a rhythm,” said the former boilermaker.

When asked what the biggest adjustment has been so far, Edey answered the questions many scouts had surrounding the draft.

“I would say offensively – the style of play is a little different than obviously Purdue. Figuring out how to put myself in the position I need to be in. Figure out how to pick my spots a little better.”

Unable to extend his scoring output to the rim, or even to that point even in mid-range, Edey is a bit clumsy on offense at the moment. But the team is working on it to help the Canadian be successful.

“Learned a lot, the team was great. They talked to me during every piece, they listened to me and let me know how to play. Constant communication was a big help.”

Edey and the Grizzlies will take center stage again tonight against the Indiana Pacers at 6 p.m
