Google's first Android 15 patch for Pixel is now live

We knew it was coming thanks to a little leak from Verizon, but that doesn't make today any less exciting. Google has officially released its latest Android 15 update, bringing bug fixes and security patches to compatible Pixel phones. While there's a lot to sift through here, this update will focus more on the Pixel 9 series, with Google's latest phones getting the most attention.

Now available for Pixel 6 and newer

Of course, if you're a Pixel 6, 7, or 8 series owner, you should also download this update as it still brings some general experience improvements with UI improvements. Although you should see a prompt to update, you can access it at any time Settings menu to start the process manually. However, if you're one of those cautious Pixel owners who've been annoyed in the past, it might be a better idea to hold off for now.



Huge fixes for the Pixel 9

Thanks to a tip from Verizon, we were able to get the full feature list of this update early, but it's still worth going through all the details here in case you weren't able to dive into our other post. Just in case you're curious, the update comes with two software versions, split between the Pixel 9 series and the rest of Google's phone lineup.

For the Pixel 9 series, you should see the update arrive as version AP3A.241105.008. For those with other supported devices like Pixel 6, 7 and 9, the update will be available as version AP3A.241105.007. What's changing: There's a lot going on with Google's latest smartphones, with fixes for Bluetooth range, adaptive brightness, camera behavior and the keyboard.


Google also fixed an issue with white dots that also appeared on the display under certain conditions. The full list of fixes posted on Google's phone support page can be found below.

Bluetooth

  • Fix Bluetooth range issue under certain conditions*(3)

camera

  • Fixed an issue observing camera tilt when zooming between cameras under certain conditions*(3)

Display and graphics

  • Fixed an issue that caused white dots to flash under certain conditions*(3)
  • Fixed an issue with screen brightness flickering under certain conditions*(2)

Sensors

  • Fixed an issue that occasionally prevented Adaptive Brightness from activating under certain conditions*(3)

Touch

  • Fixed an issue when pressing the key to close the keyboard under certain conditions*(3)

user interface

  • General performance and stability improvements for certain UI transitions and animations*(1)


As for the other Pixel phones, most devices will get some “general performance and stability improvements to certain UI transitions and animations.” But those who own a Pixel 8a will be happy to know that the latest update also fixes screen flickering issues.
