Google admits the Where Can I Vote feature favored Harris over Trump and says the problem is now fixed

Criticism of Google erupted on social media on Tuesday after voters noticed that the tech giant was helping them find out where they could vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, but failing to inform potential voters of former President Trump where they would could cast their vote.

While many have insisted that Google interfered in the election, the company claims that it was simply a technical error that has been fixed.

When “Where can I vote for Harris?” was typed into Google, the website provided information about where to vote and allowed users to enter their address to find the nearest voting location. However, when asked “Where can I vote for Trump?” Google neglected to inform users where they can vote and instead offered links to Election Day coverage from CNN, CBS and NBC.

“The Where to Vote window is triggered for some specific searches because Harris is also the name of a county in Texas. Also happens with “Vance” because it is also the name of a county. The solution is imminent. Note that “very few people actually search for polling places this way,” Google posted in response to the backlash against X.

“Update “This is now fixed,” Google added shortly after.

This is a developing story, more to come…
