If you go fishing for “Chilean Sea Bass Crackers,” you might be stuck at the dock for a while.

Goldfish announced it would temporarily change its name to appeal to adult consumers. They took the bait.

The limited-edition crackers, priced at $7.38 for two bags, were available online Wednesday. On Thursday, the first batch of the snack that smiles back sold out.

“Sorry, everything’s gone for today!” said the website. “Come back tomorrow at 9 a.m. EST for more Chilean sea bass fishing.”

You can purchase Chilean Sea Bass Crackers at ChileanSeaBassCrackers.com. The company announced “new inventory reductions” through October 30th.

Goldfish crackers aren't just for kids, the company says

Although the name change was aimed at attracting millennials and Generation Z adults, the company notes that the love for the Goldfish brand knows no age limit.

“We know that the love of goldfish extends to all ages,” Danielle Brown, vice president of Goldfish, said in a press release. “Chilean sea bass is a playful nod to adults, showing that the iconic fish-shaped snack is also suitable for adult tastes.”

Brand has previously tried to attract adult snackers

The brand has recently aimed to tempt adults with new, limited-edition flavors.

These include the Goldfish OLD BAY Seasoned Crackers, which consist of 18 herbs and spices and serve as a flavorful topping for seafood and other dishes.

In 2021, the brand also introduced Goldfish Frank's RedHot Crackers as part of a partnership with the Pepperidge Farm brand. The snack combined classic hot sauce ingredients like vinegar and aged cayenne peppers.

“The most requested flavor for Goldfish was hot and spicy,” Janda Lukin, chief marketing officer of Campbell Snacks, previously told USA TODAY. “This flavor is intended for the older, adult audience that craves the heat and can handle it.”
