Glen Powell's Running Man remake will be released in 2025

After winning the hearts of romantic comedy fans, tornado enthusiasts and killers this year, Glen Powell's next big role is finally set for 2025.

He will star in Edgar Wright's remake of “The Running Man,” hitting theaters Nov. 21, 2025, from Paramount, the company announced Friday. Powell took on the role of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 action film based on Stephen King's novel. The film is set in a dystopian future where a TV show follows criminal “runners” on the run from professional killers.

Paramount has pushed back dates for several other 2025 films. The reboot of Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson has been postponed from July 18th to August 1st. The cast includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, Cody Rhodes, CCH Pounder and Busta Rhymes. Neeson plays the son of Leslie Nielsen's character in his classic slapstick comedy series. It is directed by Akiva Schaffer with producers Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins.

The original “Naked Gun” spot is taken over by an animated “The Smurfs” musical starring Rihanna. The move will take place from February 14, 2025 to July 18. The voice cast includes Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña with Kurt Russell and John Goodman. Directed by Chris Miller with co-director Matt Landon.

Finally, the Dakota Fanning-directed horror film “Vicious” will hit theaters on February 28, 2025, after originally being scheduled for August 8. Kathryn Hunter, Mary McCormack, Rachel Blanchard, Devyn Nekoda, Klea Scott and Emily Mitchell round out the cast. Directed by Bryan Bertino.

“5. September,” a historical drama about the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage crisis through the eyes of the ABC Sports news team, also received an awards season release date. The film opens in limited release on November 29th and expands on December 13th. The film stars Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin and Leonie Benesch and has attracted Oscar attention.
