Gerrard looking for a big reaction, Al Taawoun trying to jam the Al Hilal machine

The 8th game week of the Roshn Saudi League 2024-25 comes to an end on Saturday. Steven Gerrard wants to change his team's fortunes, the bottom of the league needs a reprieve and Al Taawoun is the latest to try to stop the aspiring champions.

Here's our matchday preview.

Al Majma'ah Sports City Stadium, Dammam – Kick-off 6:00pm

After an incredibly difficult start to the season, Al Fayha returned to form with a four-game unbeaten run, only to face the mighty Al Hilal last time out.

However, the 3-0 defeat in Riyadh is unlikely to have dampened spirits too much and second-bottom Al Fayha will be looking to bounce back in Saturday's early kick-off against Al Ettifaq, who have been out of form domestically in the last few weeks.

Steven Gerrard's side started the season with three wins in a row, but have remained winless in their last four games – three of which were defeats. Particularly painful would have been Sunday's 3-2 home defeat to Al Orobah, meaning the Dammam club have lost their last three league games on home soil.

However, Al Fayha have only won once in 12 RSL games against Al Ettifaq (D5, L6). In addition, they have played the most RSL home games against Al Ettifaq without a top division opponent winning.

Al Raed Club Stadium, Buraida – Kick-off 6:05 p.m

Al Raed welcomes the RSL's bottom side to Buraidah and hopes to continue their slight upward trend. Odair Hellmann's men have picked up four points from their last two league games: an excellent 1-0 win at Al Ettifaq was followed by a 2-2 draw at home to Al Wehda.

Things could have gone much better last Saturday if Mourad Khodari hadn't equalized for the visitors from Mecca in the 95th minute. Still, another win here could push Al Raed into the top half of the table.

How Al Fateh would like a similar opportunity. It has been a hugely disappointing season so far for Jens Gustafsson's side, who have managed to win once in eight games across all competitions.

However, Sunday's 1-1 draw at home to Al Kholood snapped a run of five straight defeats. There is no doubt that everyone at the club and the team's fans will be hoping that this provides the spark to start the season.

So what will be on Saturday? Al Raed have not won in their last six home league games (D4, L2), their longest home winless streak since an eight-game run in the 2010/11 season. Al Fateh, on the other hand, has the longest away defeat in the RSL (five games) and has kept a clean sheet in their last 21 away games in the league.

Al Hilal vs Al Taawoun

Kingdom Arena, Riyadh – Kick-off 9:00 p.m

League leaders Al Hilal are looking to maintain both their 100 per cent record in this year's RSL and their 43-game unbeaten run in the league. Al Taawoun is the last to try to stop this incredible development.

Since the start of the 2024-25 RSL, Al Hilal have won 11 of 11 games across all competitions, including Monday's epic 5-4 triumph in the AFC Champions Elite clash against Asian champions Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. However, there was also a disadvantage to this encounter: the important midfielder Ruben Neves will be out for up to four weeks due to an injury.

Al Taawoun also went into the game with a win on the continent as Joao Pedro and Sultan Mandash beat Altyn Asyr of Turkmenistan 2-1 at home on Wednesday. In the RSL, Rodolfo Arruabarrena's side have lost just two of seven games and are unbeaten in their last three games, culminating in a 2-2 draw at Damac last Saturday after coming from behind.

Of course, they will have a lot to do against Al Hilal's winning machine. In fact, Al Taawoun have only triumphed in three of their 28 league games against the capital team (D4, L21).
