Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested overnight in Athens on two misdemeanors: assault and battery on an unborn child. Young was arraigned at 4:18 a.m. ET by Athens Clarke County Police and remains jailed on a $2,500 bond as of 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. Further details are not available at the time of publication.

Young, a transfer from Miami, has played in all five games for Georgia this season, totaling 11 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns. He scored in each of his first two games for the Bulldogs and helped UGA win over Clemson in the season opener, scoring the team's first touchdown of the year. Prior to his career at Georgia, Young spent two seasons at Miami, Florida, after playing one season at Lackawanna College in New York. He totaled 79 receptions for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns in 22 games for the Hurricanes, ranking third on the team in receptions (47) and receiving yards (563) in 2023, and second in receiving touchdowns (5) on the year 2023.

“Colbie is a really good player and we need him as a backup if we want to achieve our goal,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said of Young earlier in the season.

“He continues to grow and get better, and we're going to need him in our offense,” he added in September after Young's second touchdown of the season. “We need him to be able to play more snaps and be in the best shape of his life to play enough snaps.”

Young joins a list of Georgia players that includes: Daniel Harris, Smael Mondon, Bo Hughley, Sacovie White And Trevor Etienne be arrested. Their arrests all fell under the “driving-related” category. Wide receiver Rara Thomas was released from the team before the start of the season after a second family violence situation. Georgia and defensive back David Daniel Sisavanh They also parted ways because of repeated driving offenses in the off-season.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is expected to be available after practice on Tuesday, when comments on Young's situation will almost certainly be made.

In this situation the results are very disappointing. Our process and the things we have implemented are very important to me. We do as much or more education than anyone else in the country. We have discipline in the form of suspensions and will continue to do so. Some of these will result in suspensions. We had it last year with the Marcus Rosemy situation. We also had to let the boys go because they did this… I don't necessarily think it's right to go out into the town square and publicly shame the kids when that happens.
