Gene Simmons defends his DWTS comments after backlash

Gene Simmons hit back at the backlash he received for his controversial comments after recently appearing as a guest judge Dancing with the stars.

“I stand by every word I said,” said Simmons, 75 Daily Mail on Thursday, October 10th. “I had a great time. The participants were great. The show was great. Check out the show.”

While speaking to the outlet, Simmons encouraged people to watch the ABC dance competition series.

“Everyone has something to say,” he continued. “Watch the show, it was a lot of fun. Everyone had a great time.”

Simmons provided some of his reactions to the pairings' performances on the Tuesday, October 8, episode. After Chandler Kinney And Brandon Armstrong As he performed a jive to Twisted Sister's “We're Not Gonna Take It,” Simmons said the routine “fogged up” his glasses.

Responding to Simmons' remark, Kinney exclusively shared Us weekly after the show that her only response was “LOL.” She added: “Brandon has more feelings than me.”

Explaining his thought process, Armstrong added: “I said, 'Wait a minute.' I have two little sisters. I heard it. I said, 'Wait, wait, wait.'”

Simmons also raised eyebrows – and surprised the cast themselves – when he handed out some harsh grades. After telling Jenn Tran“Not only are you beautiful, but you deliver,” Simmons admitted to the former Bachelorette and partner Sasha Farber a low score. Simmons said, “Don't hate me,” before holding up a seven as the other judges gave the two eights.

While some “Dancing With the Stars” contestants are understandably eliminated because of their two left feet, other contestants are sent home far too early. The voting system was overhauled for Season 28 following radio host Bobby Bones' controversial victory a season earlier, but the change didn't stop strong competitors from leaving the ballroom. (…)

The KISS singer and bassist also gave Bravo personality Phaedra Parks a five, while the other judges gave her and her partner a five Val Chmerkovskiy Sevens. The audience began booing as Parks and Chmerkovskiy appeared shocked by the score. Kinney covered her mouth before saying, “What's wrong?”

Cohost Julianne Hough called the evening “wild” before adding: “Okay, we can't say it enough, you have to vote to save your favorites from double elimination tonight.” (Eric Roberts and his partner, Britt Stewart, as well as Reginald Vel Johnson and his partner, Emma Slater, were finally sent home on Tuesday.)

After Tuesday's show, Parks joked about Simmons, “I thought he didn't like little black women,” Chmerkovskiy, for his part, jokingly added Page Six on Tuesday: “He likes tall black women.”

Dancing with the stars airs simultaneously on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+. Episodes are available to stream the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
