ORLANDO — UCF gets a chance for immediate redemption Saturday after blowing a chance to eliminate a top-15 team a weekend ago. The Knights (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) welcome 12th-ranked BYU (7-0, 4-0) to the Bounce House for the first time in a decade. Keep scrolling for the latest score updates and highlights.

UCF faltered in the final minute at Iowa State, allowing Rocco Becht a 1-yard touchdown run and throwing an interception on its final drive, resulting in a 38-35 loss. The Knights rushed for 354 yards, powered by the backfield duo of RJ Harvey and Jacurri Brown, who was making his first start at quarterback.

BJ Adams returned an interception for a 63-yard touchdown, and Braeden Marshall nearly brought another pick home for a UCF defense that also registered three sacks. However, it was on the field for 96 games at Iowa State.

BYU kept its perfect record — and overall College Football Playoff hopes — alive last Friday in dramatic fashion. Jake Retzlaff and Darius Lassiter connected on a 35-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left as the Cougars defeated Oklahoma State 38-35.

UCF football highlights vs. BYU

BYU continued to exert itself against the beleaguered UCF defense as LJ Martin stormed through the tacklers for a 15-yard touchdown run. The Cougars lead 17-0 with 8:13 to halftime and are on track for their eighth straight victory.

BYU has run 33 offensive plays to the Knights' nine, and has a 221-50 advantage overall on offense.

For the Knights, RJ Harvey had four carries for 29 yards. Jacurri Brown is 2 of 3 for 9 yards while top receiver Kobe Hudson is sidelined with an apparent right leg injury.

No. 12 BYU leads UCF 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and is on its way to more points thanks to two bold decisions in the fourth.

Darius Lassiter escaped two tacklers to move the chains on 4th-and-2 at the Cougars' 45-yard line. Then Kalani Sitake reached into his bag of tricks and scored a fake field goal that sent kicker Will Ferrin sprinting eight yards on a fourth-and-five.

BYU is currently facing a third-and-13 at UCF's 23-yard line. The Cougars have a 144-24 yards advantage in total offense.

UCF decided to punt on 4th-and-1 from its own 49 on its only possession so far. Johnny Richardson had a rush of 9 yards and RJ Harvey ran twice for 6 yards.

Kobe Hudson, UCF's leading receiver, left the game after the first offensive play due to injury. Training staff helped him off the field because he was unable to put any weight on his right leg.

Hudson made a 6-yard completion and remained on the field after being tackled by BYU's Mory Bamba. He was examined in the medical tent and emerged with a noticeable limp.

Hudson has started all eight UCF games so far and has 27 receptions for 509 yards and three touchdowns this season.

BYU converted two third downs on its first drive, including Jake Retzlaff's 29-yard scramble into the end zone. The 12th-ranked Cougars lead UCF 7-0 with 10:32 left in the first quarter.

Retzlaff also completed two of three passes for 32 yards on the drive. LJ Martin ran three times for 11 yards.

With Oklahoma and Ole Miss still playing in the fourth quarter, television coverage of BYU-UCF has temporarily shifted from ESPN to ESPNews.

UCF won the toss and moved it into the second half. The Cougars' offense began its first possession at the 25-yard line.

UCF will have to slow BYU's passing attack without two of its starting defenders.

Cornerback Mac McWilliams and safety Ladarius Tennison were not in uniform during pregame warmups. Both will miss their first games of the 2024 season.

True freshman Chasen Johnson is expected to make his first start on the perimeter, while UCF will likely continue to use three linebackers in its base defensive system — Ethan Barr, Xe'Ree Alexander and Deshawn Pace.

Chris Boyle, Daytona Beach News-Journal: BYU 33, UCF 17

“BYU's defense is among the best in the country (13th in yards per play allowed, tied for sixth with 12 interceptions) and quarterback Jake Retzlaff has the type of dual-threat dynamic that the Knights have had all year caused a stir. … BYUs.” Even at homecoming, there's plenty of blue mixed in with black and gold in the Bounce House stands.

Chris Vinel, Daytona Beach News-Journal: BYU 36, UCF 24

“BYU has won seven straight. UCF has lost four straight. Since the Big 12 tends to cannibalize itself, chances are none of these streaks will last much longer. But they will be extended for another week.”
