    Tennessee State football is on the verge of breaking into the top 25 of the FCS.

    The Tigers received 71 voting points (27th) in this week's poll after extending their winning streak to three games with last week's victory at Eastern Illinois. The last time the Tigers were ranked was 2013, which was also the last time they secured a spot in the national playoffs.

    The Tigers (5-2, 3-1 Big South/OVC) can pick up their fourth straight win when they visit Howard (3-3, 0-0 MEAC) in the Bison home game at Greene Stadium in Washington, DC.

    There is speculation that Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the game. The Democratic presidential candidate is a Howard graduate and was on an HBCU homecoming tour with her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz.

    TSU coach Eddie George said his team is prepared for additional security measures if Harris shows up.

    TSU and Howard agreed to a home-and-home deal that will bring the Bison to Nissan Stadium for the Tigers' homecoming in 2025.

    Howard earned a 21-14 victory over Sacred Heart in a game in which the Bison had to overcome a 14-7 third quarter deficit. Ja'Shawn Scroggins ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 4:07 to play to give Howard the win.

Senior quarterback Draylen Ellis threw four TSU career touchdowns. Each score went to a different recipient. Howard ranks eighth nationally against the pass (146.8 yards), so Ellis and his crew will need to be even better this week. Tennessee State 20, Howard 13.
