The 2024 Florida State football season may not go as planned for Mike Norvell. But no matter how the season ends, he's probably not going anywhere anytime soon.

On February 16, Norvell signed an eight-year extension that expires December 31, 2031. With Norvell secured for the long term, how does his annual salary compare to other coaches?

USA TODAY has released and requested details of all coaches' salaries. This is Norvell.

What are Mike Norvell's salary numbers?

This year, Norvell will average $10 million annually. His AAV is tied with Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer for fifth place. However, Norvell's bonus maximum is slightly higher, at around $1.5 million. He earned $750,000 in bonuses.

Norvell is the second-highest paid head coach in the ACC, behind Clemson's Dabo Swinney. Miami's Mario Cristobal trails Norvell with an AAV of $7.7 million.

Norvell is the highest-paid head coach among other FBS coaches in the state of Florida. Cristobal and Billy Napier from Florida are in the top three and earn over seven million.

2024 in-state FBS coaches salary

  • Mike Norvell, Florida State$10,000,000

  • Billy Napier, Florida$7,370,000
  • Gus Malzahn, UCF$4,000,000

Which FBS coaches make more than Mike Norvell?

Georgia's Kirby Smart is the highest-paid FBS coach with an AAV of over $13 million.

Clemson's Dabo Swinney makes $11,132,775 annually. Texas' Steve Sarkisian ($10.6 million) and USC's Lincoln Riley ($10.4 million) are slightly above Novrell's AAV.

Highest Paid FBS Coach AAV

  • Kirby Smart, Georgia$13,282,580
  • Dabo Swinney, Clemson$11,132,775
  • Steve Sarkisian, Texas$10,600,000
  • Lincoln Riley, USC$10,041,318
  • Mike Norvell, FSU$10,000,000

How much would it cost to buy out Mike Norvell?

After a 13-1 record last season, FSU is heading toward a losing record, which would be Norvell's third losing record in five years as the Seminoles' head coach.

If FSU decides to part ways with Norvell, it will be costly.

As of December 1, Norvell's buyout is $63,778,333. This is the third-highest acquisition among FBS schools, behind only Smart at $118,083,333 and DeBoer at $70,050,000.
