Fortnite developer Epic Games has just released a new update for PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Android and Nintendo Switch. The new Fortnite update is applied to Battle Royale, Creative, LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing. The latest patch is released during the ongoing Fortinitemares event and includes a number of bug fixes and gameplay optimizations, although it is not without its drawbacks. Although it was a relatively small update, Epic Games actually took the game offline for server maintenance. This means Fortnite fans won't be able to play any of the game's various modes until around 11am BST (UK time).

Due to the release of the surprise weekend update, Epic Games has made some changes to its weekly tournament schedule.

The first two rounds of the Trios Cash Cup have been postponed to October 26th, while the Reload Platform Cups will take place on October 29th.

As for the update itself, Fortnite insiders like Hypex believe it will lay the groundwork for a possible end-of-season event.

This could include an upcoming in-game cinematic. Hypex explains more: “Maybe we’ll get ANOTHER cinematic with this update. “Fortnite has just hotfixed the in-game video player to play videos at 60 frames per second instead of 30.”

In a follow-up tweet, Hypex explains that the event will feature a countdown timer with a logo attached to give fans additional clues about what to expect. The event takes place in Restored Reels and features a focus button for a video player.

GENERALLY

• Built-in emotes will not play in Creative/UEFN experiences.

– We are investigating an issue where built-in emotes, i.e. emotes tied only to specific outfits, are not playing in a Creative or UEFN experience.

• Jam tracks do not adjust the volume to match the music volume setting.

– We are aware of an issue where jam tracks used as lobby music do not adjust their volume using the Music audio setting.

BATTLE ROYALE

• Structures cannot be edited while a DBNO player (down) is nearby.

– We are aware that players may not be able to manipulate structures while a DBNO or “knocked” player is nearby. This will be fixed in a future game update.

FORTNITE MOBILE

• Players may not be able to move after leaving the locker room.

– When leaving a locker room in Creative mode, the player's character cannot move.

LEGO FORTNITE

• Item icons display a placeholder icon

– When transferring items to inventory, a placeholder icon will appear in the item icons.

• Players cannot harvest fruit from fruit trees

– Players are given the “Collect Wood” command and can only collect wood when attempting to harvest fruit.

• Certain animals are not unlocked in the codex

– Rams, Mountain Cows and Frostwolves will not unlock in the Codex after interacting with them.

• The backpack can get stuck off-road on floating islands or in caves.

– After being eliminated on floating islands or in caves/grottoes, the player's backpack may become stuck in the terrain and cannot be retrieved.
