Former Olympic snowboarder is wanted by FBI for murder and drug trafficking

A former Olympic snowboarder is wanted by the FBI for a series of crimes.

Ryan Wedding, a Canadian who competed in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, was charged in California in September. Fees include:

  • Conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances
  • Conspiracy to export cocaine
  • Continuation of the criminal enterprise
  • Murder in connection with an ongoing criminal enterprise and drug-related crime
  • Attempted murder in connection with an ongoing criminal enterprise and drug crime.

According to the FBI release, Wedding, 43, is wanted for allegedly directing and participating in a transnational drug trafficking operation that routinely shipped hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California to Canada and other locations in the United States.

In addition, it is alleged that Wedding was involved in orchestrating several murders to further drug crime. Rewards of up to $50,000 are being offered for his capture.

Wedding, who also faces years-long charges in Canada, is one of 16 people charged in connection with a ring that transported 60 tons of cocaine annually, the Associated Press reported. He is one of four still at large.

Wedding finished 24th in the men's Olympic snowboard slalom in Salt Lake City.
