Former NBC News anchor Brian Williams will return to work on election night, hosting a live results and analysis special available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon announced the plans on Thursday, saying the Election Night streamcast would begin at 5 p.m. Eastern time, without specifying an end time. His longtime NBC colleague Jonathan Wald will serve as executive producer.

An election night show represents a new dimension for a major streaming service that doesn't have its own news service. Prime Video offered little specifics in a press release, saying the show would include results from third-party news sources and a number of yet-to-be-named news sources have guests who could talk about it.

Amazon said Williams and Wald were not immediately available.

As anchor of “NBC Nightly News” from 2004 to 2015, Williams led the network’s election night coverage. He later worked at MSNBC as an anchor and host of his own late night news show, which he left in 2021.

“After 41 years in the business — from local news to network broadcasts to cable news — it feels like the next big thing,” Williams said. “And Amazon’s global marketplace is a natural home for this unique company. Together we will follow the action on election night wherever it takes us.”

Amazon said this was a one-night-only event for the service and Williams.
