Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel was sentenced to 12 years in prison after the judge accepted a plea deal

CLARK Co., Ind. (WAVE) – Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel will spend over a decade in prison after special judge Larry Medlock “reluctantly” accepted a plea deal.

Noel will spend 12 years in prison, followed by three years of probation under Washington County supervision.

Indiana State Police have charged Noel with theft, tax evasion and money laundering during his time as sheriff and chief of New Chapel EMS. Last month, Noel pleaded guilty to 27 of 31 charges as part of a deal with prosecutors. The plea deal also includes $2.8 million in restitution to New Chapel EMS, $61,000 to the Clark County Sheriff's Office and $173,000 in back taxes.

On Monday, October 14, the court heard from 21 people who gave victim impact statements. Several people testified, including some firefighters and emergency responders.

Suzzane Davis was one of the first people to testify. She is a firefighter and emergency medical services worker. She worked for New Chapel EMS for three years between 2020 and 2023.

Davis said she was issued inadequate firefighting equipment and claims it did not fit her, including the air mask, putting her safety at risk. She also said she is the only paramedic on duty, which leads to longer wait times for emergencies.

Another witness was Roger Montgomery Jr., who worked for Noel as a sergeant and paramedic between 2005 and 2011. He said there were times when emergency calls were delayed because they had to take an ambulance back to the fire station to transfer to a fire truck.

Montgomery said they were used to driving Noel's limousines and only leaving one firefighter in the truck.

WAVE Problem Solver Mark Stevens is at the Clark County Courthouse with updates:

The sentencing hearing comes more than a year after Indiana State Police first opened an investigation into allegations of criminal activity during his tenure from 2015 to 2022.
