Football Video and Report: October 17 – University of Nebraska

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule met with members of the media after practice on Thursday. He talked about the difficulties of narrowing down the travel list.

“If you don't have a very good team, it's a lot easier. When you have a good team it's a lot harder because if one guy goes into trouble you have other options, so many options. Maybe you want an 11th O-lineman or an additional corner. So we have a lot of good young players who may be in their redshirt years, but it's a game where we need them to step up and compete. There were difficult decisions this week.”

Rhule also talked about the Hoosiers' defense and defensive lineman Mikail Kamara, who has five sacks this season.

“They do a great job with their line games and twist games. They've never fallen behind, so they have a lead in every game and are able to come out and just attack you and overwhelm you. They have great defense and great design. He (Kamara) is an excellent edge rusher, he has speed and power, he can beat you with the inside movement, he can take the edge. We will see all of this. Take #6 (Kamara), #41 (Lanell Carr Jr.), #99 (James Carpenter) is one of my favorite players I've ever seen, coming from James Madison, with an inside three technique, twitch. The nose is a big, strong man who can push the bag. They have an excellent D-line and an excellent pass rush.”

Rhule spoke about his message to the team before the game against Indiana.

“Focus on us,” he said. “We can’t control the other team. It's the same message I said at UNI, the same message I said at UTEP, the same message I said every week. The team that plays best wins. It's not the team with the best roster, it's not the team with the best record. It's not the team that won last week. It's not the team that has the better music in the locker room. The team that plays better wins. I wish you a good week of preparation. Be in the moment, one moment at a time. Don't worry about the scoreboard and go play. What I respect so much about this team we're playing is that they outscored their opponents 80-17 in the fourth quarter. They are one-score ball games that they retire from because they stay in the moment. This is a veteran team with a lot of guys who have won a lot of football. You know what's important. I think our guys got two wins in a row, they had some big moments. They suffered a tough defeat and learned from it. We’re just going to focus on ourselves and go out there and just play.”

The Huskers will face the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, October 19th at 11 a.m. CT in Bloomington, Indiana. The game will be televised on FOX, with audio coverage from the Huskers Radio Network.
