Florida State's field goal attempt goes hysterically wrong

This might be one of the worst – and funniest – field goal attempts you'll ever see.

With just over four minutes left in the first quarter, Florida State attempted a field goal against Duke and took a 6-0 lead.

However, everything went wrong.

When the ball was snapped, owner Alex Mastromanno failed to properly secure the football, and when kicker Ryan Fitzgerald went to throw the ball away, he kicked Mastromanno in the left hand while his right hand virtually blocked the kick.

Since we live in 2024, it immediately went viral on social media and people had some thoughts about it.

The field goal attempt is a microcosm of Florida State's season

Things weren't supposed to work out that way for the Seminoles. At the start of the season, Florida State was ranked tenth overall.

However, things quickly went wrong.

They lost their first three games of the season and five of six before facing Duke on Friday night.

One of the main reasons for this is Florida State's offense. They average just over 14 points per game and have not scored more than 21 points in a game this season.

FSU's offensive line particularly struggled.

“It's about a variety of things, and firstly it starts with myself and the position I put it in and who I'm out there with and the decisions I make. So it starts with assessing the six weeks and watching everything.” Offensive coordinator Alex Atkins told reporters earlier this week that he has to look at the running scheme, every play, every moment, who did what, who didn't do what, and make sure that they are doing everything well. I'm finding a way to let them do this, via SI.com. “It may not be what I think will work or what the defense gives us. It has to be what we have shown, what we are actually capable of.”

The Seminoles' 1-5 record is their worst start to a season since 1975.
