Flooding is likely this weekend

After one of the driest September/October periods on record, Green Country is facing a three-day rain event that will cause widespread flooding of rivers, roads and even neighborhoods.

We expect several showers and squalls to move through Green Country from late Saturday and continue well into Monday next week. At least a few centimeters of rain is expected in large parts of the region, although rain amounts of more than 25 centimeters are possible in isolated cases.

The showers and squalls are expected to move into the western Green Country by late Saturday afternoon and then spread across the region into Saturday night.

OU and OSU's home games were rescheduled earlier in the day to accommodate the later timing of stormy weather. It looks like OU will be able to get through their game without much issue, but OSU may have to deal with wet/stormy weather in the second half and definitely after the game.

Sunday morning looks to be off to a stormy start and you can expect several showers through Sunday night.

Please remain weather aware this weekend. If you come across a road with water flowing over it, do not attempt to drive through the water. More than half of all flash flood deaths occur in cars! If you live in a flood-prone area, be prepared to move to higher ground if necessary. Also, make sure your gutters and storm drains are clear of leaves and debris. And as always, remember: when thunder booms, go indoors!
