A highly anticipated ticker parade for the WNBA champion New York Liberty will flood the Canyon of Heroes on Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams said.

Adams said in a video message congratulating the team that the parade would begin at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at City Hall to celebrate the team's only honor in New York.

“You have made us proud and we will make you proud,” he said.

The Liberty captured the WNBA title on Sunday with a thrilling 67-62 Game 5 overtime win over the Minnesota Lynx at their home arena at Barclays Center.

Not only was it the first title for the nearly three-decade-old franchise, but it was also New York's first professional basketball championship in nearly 50 years.

The Liberty Parade will begin at 10 a.m. in Battery Park and extend to Broadway, according to an informational text from City Hall.

They will be the first local women's professional sports team to get the ticker tape treatment, although the U.S. women's national team has traveled down the Canyon of Heroes twice after winning the Women's World Cup in 2015 and 2019.

The city hasn't held a ticker parade for a local team since the Giants defeated the Patriots in the 2012 Super Bowl.

The team's push for a championship capped a record year for the WNBA – which saw attendance and fan base explode, thanks in part to star rookie Caitlin Clark – and for New York sports teams.

While the Liberty were trying to make basketball history, the New York Mets and Yankees were fighting for spots in the World Series. Unfortunately, Mets fans' hopes of reaching the halfway point of a Subway Series were dashed with a 10-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night.

The Yankees clinched a spot in the World Series with their dramatic win over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday, blowing away the hopes of some — though not all — Big Apple sports fans for another iconic post-Liberty ticker parade awakened the Canyon of Heroes.
