European football: Robert Lewandowski scores hat-trick in Barcelona cruise | European club football

Robert Lewandowski's first-half hat-trick sent the La Liga leaders into the lead Barcelona contributed to a 3-0 away win Alaves on Sunday as the Polish striker extended his lead at the top of the league's top scorers list.

Barcelona wasted no time in taking the lead when Lewandowski headed home from Raphinha's free-kick in the seventh minute, before the Brazilian winger provided the 36-year-old striker with another assist on a counterattack to score his second goal.

Lewandowski completed his hat-trick in the 32nd minute, scoring his 10th La Liga goal in nine games this season, but despite their dominance, Barcelona were unable to score again as Antonio Sivera remained strong in the Alavés' goal.

The win took Barcelona to 24 points, three points ahead of rivals Real Madrid, while Alavés are in 12th place with 10 points.

The Girona Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga saved two penalties, including one that had to be retaken, before his teammate Cristhian Stuani scored from the spot deep in stoppage time to defeat the visitors Sporty Bilbao 2-1.

Álex Berenguer's penalty was saved in the first half and Athletic's penalty luck worsened after the break as Iñaki Williams' attempt was also stopped. It had to be replayed because Gazzaniga's foot went off the line. Ander Herrera stepped up, but his attempt was also saved by the former Fulham and Tottenham goalkeeper.

The visitors were immediately punished after Berenguer's poor miss when Colombian midfielder Yáser Asprilla gave Girona the lead in the 39th minute, sending a dangerous left-footed cross from outside the penalty area into the bottom left corner past goalkeeper Álex Padilla.

Oihan Sancet equalized two minutes later, but substitute Stuani converted his 99th-minute penalty to secure all three points and end Girona's four-match winless run in La Liga.

“I’m happy about the three points the team got,” said Gazzaniga. “I can’t remember another game like this. I would like to highlight the team's work, because without them this would not have been possible. We studied the penalties with the goalkeeper coach and this time it worked well.”

Juventus conceded their first Serie A goal when a late Razvan Marin penalty gave the visitors a 1-1 draw Cagliari. Dusan Vlahovic gave Juventus the lead with a penalty in the 15th minute, but despite dominating most of the game, Juve were unable to score a second goal and were made to pay with two minutes remaining.
