El Paso's 91-degree weather breaks the record held since 1889

Update: El Paso sets a new record today with 91, breaking the previous record of 89 set in 1889.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – El Paso will experience record-breaking heat this week, with lowland temperatures reaching the upper 80s to around 90 degrees by Thursday. The unusually warm weather will be accompanied by dry conditions that will persist through the remainder of October.

A dry, westerly flow from a highland in northeastern Mexico will keep the region warm and dry. Although there is some moisture south of the border in Chihuahua, it is not expected to reach the El Paso area, so the weather will remain mostly dry.

Over the next few days, the high pressure system will shift west toward Baja California, maintaining a pattern of dry air and rising temperatures across New Mexico and far western Texas. With lowland high temperatures approaching 90 degrees, El Paso is poised to break several daily temperature records and could have one of the youngest 90-degree days on record in late October.
