Early in-person voting in Michigan begins Saturday: Here's how it works

Early in-person voting for the 2024 presidential election begins in Michigan on Saturday.

In November 2022, Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment giving voters the right to vote early and in person at early voting sites. The first time Michigan allowed early in-person voting for statewide elections was for the 2024 presidential primary on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

Now, early in-person voting is an option for all state and national elections in Michigan.

Here's what you should know:

Who can vote early?

Any registered voter in Michigan can vote early and in person at an early voting site in state and federal elections.

What is the early voting process like?

Early in-person voting works broadly the same as regular in-person voting. Voters are given a ballot, fill it out, and then insert it directly into a tabulator.

How to find your early voting location

You can visit your designated early voting site at up to 60 days before Election Day Michigan.gov/Vote. Some voters will only be assigned one early voting location, while others may have multiple locations to choose from.

When does early voting end?

Early voting ends Sunday, November 3rd.

Do I need photo ID?

No. While voters should bring a photo ID to an early voting site, it is not required. Voters who do not have a photo ID or have forgotten one can still vote after signing an affidavit.

Can you register to vote on an early voting site?

No. Voters may not register to vote at an early voting location unless the location is also a clerk's office.

Michigan residents may register in person at their local elections office until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Can you change your vote after voting early?

No. Once a ballot is inserted into a tab, it cannot be changed.
