Drake Maye and Jerod Mayo are keeping quiet about the Patriots quarterback's knee injury

Drake Maye and Jerod Mayo remain cautious about Patriots QB's knee injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

According to most reports, Drake Mayes' knee injury doesn't seem like a big deal. But we don't know much beyond that.

That's because both the New England Patriots' rookie quarterback and his head coach declined to elaborate on Maye's injury after he appeared on the injury report Wednesday and Thursday with knee issues.

“I feel good,” Maye told reporters in London on Friday ahead of the Patriots' game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. “I've been feeling good during training for the last two days.” I'm feeling good now. Sunday ready to go.

When Maye was asked specifically when the injury occurred, she followed Bill Belichick's media playbook.

“I think injuries are something you don’t really want to share with the media,” Maye said. “So I’m just looking forward to Sunday.”

Our Patriots insider Phil Perry spoke with multiple team sources who insisted they weren't worried about Maye's injury. But the team still hasn't confirmed whether Maye received an MRI on his knee – which Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reported on Wednesday – or whether Maye injured his knee last Sunday in the game against the Houston Texans or in practice. (Perry suggested the injury may have occurred in practice.)

“I’m not sure if it was a holdover from the (Texans) game or not,” Mayo told reporters Friday. “What I can say is he looks good, he was out there at practice doing the most reps.”

“I’m not going to go into medical imaging or anything like that,” Mayo added when asked if Maye had an MRI. “What I want to say is that I am confident he will be ready to play.”

Mayo has been much more transparent with the media than his predecessor, but it appears the team is becoming closer when it comes to details regarding Maye's knee. The good news for Patriots fans, however, is that Maye appeared fully mobile in practice on Thursday and is expected to play against the Jags on Sunday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET in London.
