Donald Trump reportedly canceled an NBC interview in Philadelphia

Former President Donald Trump appears to be pulling out of another major news interview, this time with NBC News.

NBC thought it had secured an interview with Trump in Philadelphia that focused on the economy and other topics, but the former president suddenly canceled it Wednesday night, CNN's Brian Stelter reported in his Reliable Sources newsletter, citing three unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.

NBC News senior business correspondent Christine Romans, a former CNN anchor, was scheduled to conduct the interview on Monday. CNN reported that the interview could still take place and that discussions are ongoing.

Neither NBC nor the Trump campaign responded to a request for comment.

If Trump opts out, it would be the third major interview with a traditional news outlet that he has walked away from in recent days. Trump was scheduled to appear on CBS 60 minutes last weekend, but backed out and left the show to focus her episode on Vice President Kamala Harris. It is said that Trump then canceled an interview on CNBC Squawk box Host Joe Kernen.

“Well, Trump canceled, and he wanted to move on,” Kernen said on the show Tuesday morning.

The news comes after Harris made the surprise decision to join forces with Fox News, a conservative news channel where nearly all on-air personalities are outspoken Trump supporters.

As expected, Fox News host Bret Baier's interview on Wednesday was combative, including an exchange in which Harris took him to task for editing footage of Trump suggesting he might use the military , to crack down on his critics, including Reps. Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi, both California Democrats.

“Bret, I'm sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he said about the enemy within, what he repeated when speaking about the American people,” Harris said.

Trump also appeared on Fox News on Wednesday, which aired a town hall he recorded in Georgia on Tuesday with host Harris Faulkner. That audience was largely made up of Republicans and Trump supporters, who cheered the former president after each answer and praised him before their questions.

One questioner was the president of the Fulton Country Republican Women group. Another asked a question while wearing a large Trump pin, while an audience member wore a hat that read “RNC DELEGATE.”

CNN reported that Fox News edited a question from a participant named Alicia, who revealed that she had already cast her vote for Trump in 2024.

“I proudly cast my vote for you today. I hope they count it,” she asked, according to a recording of the exchange captured by a CNN reporter who attended the event. This part never made it to television.

Fox News did not respond to a request for comment.

Trump appeared at another town hall event with undecided Latino voters that aired on Univision Wednesday night, where he was confronted by a former supporter.

Ramiro Gonzalez, a Republican from Florida, asked Trump why he should vote for him again after what happened on January 6, 2021, when supporters of the former president stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Gonzalez also noted that many former Trump administration officials — including former Vice President Mike Pence — do not support Trump's re-election efforts.

In a rambling response, Trump said he “completely disagrees” with Pence's decision to certify the election and called the Capitol insurrection “a day of love.” At least seven people died in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, according to a bipartisan Senate report, and at least 1,200 people have been charged in connection with the attempt to overturn the election, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia prosecuted the cases.

Trump will return to the Philadelphia area on Sunday

As The Inquirer reported, Trump will return to the Philly area on Sunday to work at an area McDonald's restaurant. The exact location and timing remain unclear as Trump is also expected to attend an NFL game between the Steelers and New York Jets in Pittsburgh on Sunday, starting at 8:20 p.m., sources told CBS news station KDKA.

The former president is also holding a rally in Latrobe in western Pennsylvania on Saturday. He is scheduled to speak at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport around 6 p.m. The rally follows a bizarre appearance in Oaks on Monday in which Trump eschewed a town hall format and instead listened to music on stage for about half an hour.

Harris hosted an event in Bucks County on Wednesday that drew more than 100 Republicans to support her campaign, including two Malvern farmers who previously voted for Trump.

“Never in a million years would any of us have thought we would be standing here voting for a Democrat. But we have enough,” said Kristina Lange.
