Dodgers News: Ryan Brasier is expected to start Game 2 of the NLCS

The Los Angeles Dodgers have listed reliever Ryan Brasier as the starter for Monday's bullpen game.

Brasier started Game 4 of the National League Division Series, which was a win-or-go-home game for the Dodgers. The right-hander retired a batter, gave up no runs and issued no walks in 1.1 innings against the San Diego Padres. Brasier threw 13 strikes in his 19-pitch game.

The Dodgers are hoping Brasier can repeat his performance Monday afternoon against the Mets. The Dodgers' pitching staff threw 33 consecutive scoreless innings in the postseason, tying the 1966 Baltimore Orioles, who held the major league record.

Before Game 4 against the Padres, several baseball analysts believed that the Dodgers made a serious mistake by playing a bullpen game in an elimination contest. However, the Dodgers bullpen was down for most of the postseason.

The Dodgers were considered underdogs entering October, largely because of their injury-plagued pitching staff. It only made sense that the Dodgers wouldn't be able to stop dynamic rosters like San Diego's.

But the Dodgers are beating the odds and hoping to continue their winning streak against New York. Jack Flaherty earned the start in Game 1. He pitched seven scoreless innings against the Mets.

As he left the mound, Dodger Stadium gave Flaherty a standing ovation. The Burbank native became the first Dodgers pitcher to go seven innings deep in a postseason game since Clayton Kershaw in 2020.

“We’re going to have fun tonight, but we have a quick turnaround tomorrow,” Flaherty said. “It’s going to be fun for me to watch these guys go out there and compete, and watch everyone come out of the bullpen, whoever takes the ball, and watch this lineup go to work.”

Brasier is the expected starter and he will be tasked with continuing the scoreless inning streak. The entire group insists on avoiding premature celebrations. Even though the Dodgers won 9-0 yesterday, the team is already focused on Game 2.

“So we still have a lot to do. Whatever the outcome, it’s great,” Flaherty added. “But at the end of the day, all that matters is going out and winning ballgames.”

The Dodgers now need three more wins to reach the World Series.
