Dhanteras 2024: This major Hindu festival, also called Dhantrayodashi, is celebrated two days before Diwali. Devotees worship Lord Kuber, the god of wealth, and Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda and health, and Goddess Lakshmi on this day. The day is considered auspicious for purchasing silver and gold items, utensils and brooms.

When is Dhanteras?

Dhanteras inaugurates the five-day Diwali celebrations. It is celebrated annually on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month (October to November). According to Drik Panchang, this year it will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29. This year, Dhanteras Puja Muhurat will last for one hour and 49 minutes. Check the exact times listed below:

Dhantera meaning

Dhantrayodashi marks the arrival of the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Goddess Lakshmi. It is popularly believed to bring good luck and prosperity. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped across India. Devotees not only pay reverence to Goddess Lakshmi but also worship Lord Kuber along with Maa Lakshmi, a symbol of wealth and prosperity.

The day marks the beginning of Diwali celebrations when followers of the faith purify and cleanse the mind, soul and home. Notably, Dhanteras precedes Chhoti Diwali, popularly known as Naraka Chaturdashi.
