Dave Matthews sits down with SiriusXM ahead of his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

In anticipation of the upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, October 19th, Dave Matthews sat down with radio host Ari Fink on SiriusXM's Dave Matthews Band Radio. During the segment, Matthews spoke about being in the class of 2024 and explained his dream induction ceremony's induction. He later joked about winning the fan vote in the past and expressed his gratitude to his supportive fan community.

When Fink asked who he might choose to induct DMB into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, living or dead, Matthews replied, “Dead” and then paused to consider his selection. After debating whether his late father could do the honors, Matthews decided on someone “edgy” and named Frank Zappa as his choice. Matthews explained his decision by saying that he “grew up loving Frank Zappa and fearing the decline of America.” For that reason, he elaborated, “it would be fun to hear what terrible shit he would say about the institution in general,” and Fink agreed, adding that Zappa “set the room and all the people on fire could”.

Matthews later explained that the “best thing” about the upcoming induction ceremony was the irony of winning the fan vote. Referring to his original insight into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Matthews explained that the first time around, the Dave Matthews Band won the fan vote and received a nomination, but were not inducted. Although the band won the fan vote again this year, their induction into the band is imminent. Matthews joked that it “would have almost been even sweeter” if they hadn't received the shot as a sign of love from fans.

Regarding the band's longevity, Matthews earnestly stated that it certainly feels “nice to be collectively recognized by fans and fellow musicians as a long-standing group.” At the end of the section, he thanked his fans and attributed the band's success in large part to their enthusiastic supporters. “That’s what it’s all about,” Matthews concluded, “the gratitude to the fans.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will stream live on Disney+ at 7:00 p.m. ET and will remain available on the streaming platform thereafter. ABC's primetime highlight reel will go live the next day on Hulu and Disney+. Additional performers/presenters will be announced as the October event approaches.
